Meet Rachael

Hobo + co. was founded by Rachael in 2013, beginning in her own kitchen with a love of making things by hand.

Having grown up around her family's farm in Lincolnshire, Rachael was no stranger to practical work and creating things herself.

She had also spent many years living away from home and travelling, developing a love of discovering new places.

Those experiences, together with her interest in interiors and making, helped shape the direction of hobo + co.

What started in her kitchen has since developed into an independent British home fragrance and wellness business, with its own dedicated candle-making studio in Lincolnshire.

The name hobo reflects the idea of a wanderer or drifter, something that feels fitting for a brand inspired by travel and a free-spirited approach to life.

For Rachael, fragrance has become a way of connecting everyday life with the places, feelings and experiences that stay with us.

Made by hand in Lincolnshire

Today, hobo + co. operates from a dedicated studio on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds.

Its candles are made in small batches using 100% natural soy wax, blended with fragrances or pure aromatherapy essential oils.

The team handles the process in-house, from preparing and pouring candles to labelling and packaging the finished products.

The brand also places importance on choosing materials and packaging that can be reused or recycled.

It's a thoughtful approach that reflects the independent nature of the business.

Why we've chosen hobo + co.

When I started Plainly Does It, I wanted to bring together independent brands whose products felt thoughtfully made and suited to everyday living.

Hobo + co. appealed to me because of its simple, understated style, lovely fragrance combinations and the story behind the business.

I love that something which began in Rachael's kitchen has grown into an established independent British brand, while continuing to make its products by hand in Lincolnshire.

The candles, diffusers and aromatherapy collections fit naturally with the kind of home fragrance and gifting range I'm building at Plainly.
